Who we Are heading.png

Hello, my name is Jane. I am so happy to meet you! I never know what to say in these bio sections, so excuse me if I ramble.

I love creating beauty in the world. It took me a while, however, to figure out that I wanted to be a make-up artist & hairstylist. I studied Interior Design worked as a designer, lived and worked in the UK, came back to SA studied fashion design and worked as a visual merchandiser, fashion designer and freelance illustrator for several years before deciding to take a sabbatical from the design world. My heart was no longer in it, and I had to take some time to figure out what my next step in life would be!

"Sophie Jean is the combination of my Mother's name, Sophia, and my Grandmother's nickname Jeana (I'm named after her, Jane Elizabeth) I felt that all the feminine influences in my life should be represented in my business' name as well as in it's philosophy, that beauty transcends age, race and beliefs. You are beautiful by nature!"

I moved back to my home town of Stellenbosch and found a job as a coordinator for a floristry & events company. And, wow, did it open my eyes! I realised I love weddings, working on weekends, travelling, seeing new places, being hands-on and working independently.

So when the chance to do a make-up and hair course became available I jumped into it, and it all just clicked into place! I get to make people look and feel beautiful, I get to be creative & artistic every day. I always think of the following quote hoping others will also find the strength to follow their passions.

“For what it’s worth... it’s never too late, to be whomever you want to be. There’s no time limit. Start whenever you want. You can change or stay the same. There are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you live a life you’re proud of, and if you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start over again.”

So, since 2017 I have been a professional make-up artist and hairstylist, I was trained by Alicia Buckle and mentored by Cecilia Fourie and I am part of the Helga Bridal team. I get to use my knowledge and expertise in design and art and combine it with my love of make-up & hairstyling.

I have worked at weddings & photoshoots all over the Western Cape from Yzerfontein to Baardskeerdersbos, and even as far afield as Swakopmund & Windhoek in our beautiful neighbour Namibia. I have been published in Mooi Troues, South Bound Bride and Munaluchi Bride.

And most importantly to me, I have met some of the loveliest people and I hope yours' is the next lovely face I get to paint!
